چکیده

A thorough understanding of the magnetocaloric properties of existing magnetic refrigerant materials has been an important issue in magnetic refrigeration technology. This paper reviews a new class of magnetocaloric material, that is, the ferromagnetic perovskite manganites (R1 xMxMnO3, where R 1⁄4 La, Nd, Pr and M 1⁄4 Ca, Sr, Ba, etc.). The nature of these materials with respect to their magnetocaloric properties has been analyzed and discussed systematically. A comparison of the magnetocaloric effect of the manganites with other materials is given. The potential manganites are nominated for a variety of largeand small-scale magnetic refrigeration applications in the temperature range of 100–375K. It is believed that the manganite materials with the superior magnetocaloric properties in addition to cheap materials-processing cost will be the option of future magnetic refrigeration technology. r 2006 Elsevier B.V. Magnetocaloric effect in La0.75Sr0.25MnO3 manganite

The polycrystalline manganite La0.75Sr0.25MnO3 prepared by an alternative carbonate precipitation route reveals the rhombohedral perovskite structure. Magnetization isotherms measured up to 2 T are used to determine Curie temperature of 332 K by means of Arrott plot. Maximum of magnetic entropy change is found at Curie temperature. The relative cooling power equal to 64 J/kg for 1.5 T magnetic ...

Indirect measurement of the magnetocaloric effect using a novel differential scanning calorimeter with magnetic field.

A simple and high-sensitivity differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) unit operating under magnetic field has been built for indirect determination of the magnetocaloric effect. The principle of the measuring unit in the calorimeter is based on Peltier elements as heat flow sensors. The high sensitivity of the apparatus combined with a suitable calibration procedure allows very fast and accurat...

Giant solid-state barocaloric effect in the Ni-Mn-In magnetic shape-memory alloy.

The search for materials showing large caloric effects close to room temperature has become a challenge in modern materials physics and it is expected that such a class of materials will provide a way to renew present cooling devices that are based on the vapour compression of hazardous gases. Up to now, the most promising materials are giant magnetocaloric materials. The discovery of materials...
